Aaron M. Rice serves as assistant professor of music, director of choral activities in the Edith Lester Harbin Department of Music at Shorter University, where he conducts the Shorter Chorale, Men’s and Women’s Choirs, and the Shorter Chorus. He teaches conducting and choral methods for students in the music education and church music degrees.
Prior to his appointment at Shorter, Aaron taught at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Under his leadership, the choral department expanded to include the Chowan University Singers, the Chowan University Chorus, and the Chowan University Men’s Choir. Rice also maintained a voice studio and oversaw the conducting curriculum. Rice has prepared choirs for performances at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. While completing his doctor of musical arts degree, he served as associate conductor for the Southwestern Master Chorale, which routinely performed with the Fort Worth Symphony.
Dr. Rice has a love for the local church and has served in a variety of music ministry positions in Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas; including roles specializing in student music ministry.
A native of North Carolina, Rice received his doctor of musical arts in church music and choral conducting at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He earned the master of music degree in sacred music and choral conducting at East Carolina University; and the bachelor of arts degree in both biblical studies and comprehensive music from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Dr. Rice lives in Rome, Georgia with his wife, Lane, and their two children.

This Saturday-only event will include great choral leaders at each session, including Heather Sorenson, Aaron Rice, Mike Harland, and Jon Duncan. Registration starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, and the retreat will end by 4:45 p.m. This is a chance for choir members to learn new music and have fellowship with church choirs from across Georgia. Register through the GO Georgia site and enter the code “CHOIR” to get the special rate of $25, which includes a packet of music and lunch. You can register multiple people with the same credit card. The registration does NOT include the entire GO Georgia event, however anyone can register and pay the full amount to attend both Friday and Saturday.
